St. Tropez, France

April 10, 2010

We awoke to a beautiful, sunny day in lovely St. Tropez.  We took a tender in about as early as we could get one (10:30 AM) so we could walk around this small town on the Cote d’Azur.  What we found were lots of upscale shops and restaurants surrounding a large boat basin filled with yachts of all shapes and sizes.  Our mission for the day was to find Adele some cough and cold medicine - she has inherited my cold, the lucky lady!  After wandering through the streets and byways, we stumbled on an outdoor market.
The market had everything from foods to jewelry and clothes, but no cough medicine.  In any case, we enjoyed walking through the stalls and seeing what was offered.  There were a lot of Provençal products - biscuits, olive oil, soaps, etc.  It was quite crowded (I guess Saturday is market day), but still a lot of fun.
We finally did manage to find a grocery store which cough drops and later a pharmacy with cough syrup and better cough drops, so all was well on the medicinal front.  By the way, in France, cough drops are called “pastilles medicinales.”  We headed back to the ship for a late lunch.
We wrapped up the day by (over) indulging ourselves in a 29th anniversary dinner at the Pinnacle Grill.  Since one of our table mates (Ted Harwood) was celebrating his 81st birthday on April 11th also, it was a truly festive occasion.  The food was very good, but the quantities were way too big.
